When automatic telephone exchanges were installed, rotary dials were added to the wooden telephones - like the one on the bottom right. 

In the countryside, the subscribers who were not yet connected to an automatic exchange still used telephones like the one you see on the top right.


It is also the time when the radio became widely available.
